What are wrinkle relaxing injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are on the frontline of anti-ageing treatments, and are a proven method of combating lines and wrinkles.
Using precise placements of Botulinum Toxin A, with a very fine needle, tiny amounts of product can be injected just under the skin. The process takes up to two weeks to subtly relax the overactive muscles beneath the skin. Relaxing these muscles reduces their ability to contract as aggressively. The results are a less visible creasing of the skin, and a softening of the appearance of ageing.
This treatment is entirely safe and extremely effective when performed by medically trained professionals. Injection time only takes a few minutes, and results can last approximately four months.

Wrinkle relaxing treatments are great for:
1. Treating the fan shaped expressive smile lines around the outer aspect of the eyes, otherwise known as crow’s feet.
The wrinkles around the outer corners of the eyes (crow’s feet) are almost inevitable with age. The lines are mainly caused by recurrent muscle movements of the orbicularis oculi muscle, which is like a band of muscle, like a circle all around each eye.
Environmental factors which include air pollution, tobacco smoke, poor nutrition and ultraviolet light can break down collagen and elastin, thus increasing the effects of ageing and wrinkle formation.

- Helps with make-up, as it will not have the creases to sit in.
2. Softening the appearance of the horizontal lines on the forehead above the eyebrows:
When injecting the horizontal lines of the forehead, the frontalis muscle is targeted. This muscle is an elevator muscle, which basically means that the muscle has an upward pull. When relaxing this muscle with injections, consideration needs to be given to the fact that it will cause a heavy feeling if injected in older clients on its own.
An experienced practitioner will explain this at consultation and ensure that you understand that this area may need to be treated along with other areas such as the lines in-between the brows, in order to create a more pleasing aesthetic look.

3. Relaxing the frown lines between the brows:
The glabellar lines are often called the “elevenses” because of the two vertical lines that stand side by side. These creases are caused by the downward movement of the procerus muscle which is the muscle in-between the brows, and also the corrugator muscles which are located just above each eyebrow. The corrugator muscle makes an inward and then downward movement.
Benefits of this treatment:
- The tiny injections relax these small muscles, creating a less angry look.
- A slight lift will be created around the eyebrows too thus helping with hooded eyelids.
4. Achieving a non-surgical eyebrow lift:
By treating the elevenses lines alone, this will create some lift to the eyebrows, as will treating the crows’ feet.
When creating a chemical brow lift, small precise injections of the product is injected into the muscles that pull down the eyebrows. By relaxing these muscles with toxin, it will allow these muscles to relax and create the opposite effect; which will be a pull upwards.
The chemical brow lift, raises the skins tissue surrounding the eyes and eyebrows, so that the natural eyebrow arch is a few millimetres higher.

5. Controlling the excessive sweating under the arms, known as hyperhidrosis:
Botulinum toxin injections is a treatment that helps to control the symptoms of severe underarm sweating when other treatments have not been successful. Botulinum toxin is injected into the skin and works by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands.
Injection is very superficial, and numbing cream is applied prior to the treatment.

- Great treatment for a wedding day or interview, where the worry of sweating can be dismissed.
6. Increasing the appearance of the top lip: known as “The Lip flip”.
In a lip flip, the product is injected into the muscles surrounding the mouth. These are just on the edge of the lip. This can be a little uncomfortable, so numbing cream is always applied. By gently relaxing the muscles around the mouth enough, the lips are able to flip outward.
This procedure can be done as a stand-alone treatment, or can be used in conjunction with lip filler, to create a head turning pout.

7. Tightening the neck area; The Nefertiti lift.
The Nefertiti Lift is a non-invasive rejuvenation treatment for the neck and jawline. Using Botulinum toxin injections, it provides an easy alternative to more invasive procedures such as a surgery.
Tiny injections are carefully place in an upside down triangle shape under the jawline and down the neck. Several injections are needed on each side of the neck, in order to create a beautiful result.

8. Treating a gummy smile so that the gum isn’t showing as much when smiling
A safe and effective treatment to reduce the appearance of a gummy smile is the injection of botulinum toxin into the muscles that elevate the top lip.
Small precise, tiny injections are placed in the muscle which sits either side of the nose known as the Levator labii muscles, as it is these muscles that work to pull up the muscle just above the lips.
By gently relaxing these muscles, it will reduce the amount of gingival show when smiling.

9. Softening the vertical lines around the mouth; known as peri-oral lines or smokers lines:
These lines tend to appear as a result of the ageing process. Continuous movement of these muscles such talking and smoking can produce wrinkle formation.
The muscle injected is the orbicularis oris muscle. This muscle is like a band around the entire mouth. Small injections are placed at the edge of the lips, using only six (approximately), carefully placed injection points around the entire muscle.
Numbing cream can be applied if the client prefers, as this area can be sensitive to treat.

- An eversion (a slightly increased fullness) of the vermilion border of the lips.
10. Relaxing the Platysmal bands: the vertical bands on the neck.
These vertical bands around the neck are seen as a result of vertical thickening of the Platysma muscle. These tend to increase with age, and are accentuated when tightening the neck muscles, by lifting the chin and saying the word “Eeek”.
Botulinum toxin can be used to gently relax these muscle bands, therefore lessening the pull. Tiny injections are placed superficially just under the skin, in an upside down triangle pattern at either side of the neck.

11. Relaxing the creases that cause a pebble stone appearance on your chin:
As we age, the mentalis muscle in the chin shortens, and causes the lower lip to pout. This in turn contributes to what is known as the mental crease or pebble stone chin. This can also occur in younger clients too, and the same treatment is just as effective. For those with this condition it appears that their chin is bumpy and uneven.
Safe and quick; this condition can be easily treated with Botulinum toxin injections, which relaxes the chin muscles that causes the uneven appearance.
